Godstalked?

Why is this site called “GODsTALKed”?

There are many reasons, but since my mind is often powered by pop culture references, let me tell you about my encounter with a song.

I was listening to the song “I Will Possess Your Heart” by Death Cab for Cutie one day, and it struck me how the words of the song could easily be interpreted as God speaking to me–or you:

“How I wish you could see the potential, the potential of you and me.  Like a book elegantly bound but in a language that you can’t read–just yet.  You’ve got to take some time, love.  You’ve got to take some time with me.  And I know that you’ll find, love.  I will possess your heart.”

Upon further analysis of the song, however, I also realized something a bit disturbing (and the video for the song also seems to reflect this).  This is the song of a stalker!  From a purely human standpoint, it seems fairly clear that this is the expression of someone obsessed with another person, an interest that the other person does not seem to reciprocate–just yet.  And, unless the “stalking” is something more like an innocent crush, the object of the singer’s affection will likely never reciprocate.

But what if it was indeed God speaking?  Then, things become far less creepy.  I found I kind of liked the idea of God being a stalker, of God being someone who pursues me, comes looking for me.  Indeed, this idea resonated very strongly with the book I was writing at the time, which ended up being called, Already There: Letting God Find You.

So, GODsTALKed is about the ways in which God finds me, and that I find God in everyday life.  It’s also about “God Talk,” one of my favorite things to do.

Don’t be afraid to talk back, to God, or to me!  Let God find you!
